The "LABOUR LAW PRIMER" is a document which sets out the basic principles of employment in Guyana and is intended to guide employers and employees generally.
Every citizen has the right to work, duty to the work and the right to leisure. These rights and duties are provided for by the Constitution of Guyana. Employment provides income to workers and contributes to economic development.
The Labour Laws of Guyana provide a measure of guarantee through procedures and institutions, for the maintenance of a stable industrial relations climate.
Employers and employees or representatives of their organisations can consult the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security for advice on the provisions of the Labour Laws and Industrial Relations practices. In this primer, information on recruitment, the contract of employment and other legislated provisions in relation to the employment of labour, labour statistics and collective bargaining are outlined.
